Updated news for the week of October 23, 2017
Dear Parents,
We have been blessed with such amazing weather this fall. I do think that is why it is so hard to realize that we will be starting November so soon! Time goes by so quickly but we want to make sure that each and everyday is full of opportunities to learn.
We had such a great time at our baseball field trip. I think it was great that the Cubs sponsored all of the students who were deaf or hard of hearing from a variety of schools, to participate in this fun opportunity. They paid for the buses, shirts, medal, and lunch for all of the children. I hope your child was able to share lots of fun news with you about the trip. We had the most beautiful day possible. The children got practice running the bases, catching with a mitt, and throwing the ball. We also had a great time playing on the beautiful playground. What an amazing day!
On Wednesday morning, I have to do a math observation at another school. Maggie, who was our substitute last year, will be filling in for me until I return around lunch time.
You should have received information about the virtual sign language class that is starting today, Monday. Please let me know if you need an additional information.
Just as a reminder, Math night is on Thursday.
Remember that if you ever want to be a chaperone for one of our trips, that would be great but you do need to go through Virtus training. They offer these in many locations in the city and suburbs. I have information about the schedule of upcoming trainings so if you are interested, please let me know.
Thank you for continuing to work on the kids with the sight words. I am giving them a little leeway with the words. If I can tell they have been working on them, and know at least 80%, I am having them go onto the next list. Of course the best way to learn the words is in print concept so continue to have your child read to you everyday. Point out sight words that you come across in your reading to your child or when they are reading to you. We are continuing to use our language arts block to develop our listening, writing, and verbal skills. The children are so attentive during story times which is fantastic. Everyday Mr. Michael signs our books as well which makes them exciting and gives the children additional input. We are helping the children to be able to respond to questions about the book verbally and visually as they make pictures and write letters or words. These October weeks, we are reading a variety of books all about the farm, fall, pumpkins, Halloween, apples, and the workers that bring these products to us. We are trying to challenge each child at their individual level to progress to being better and better readers. We are doing continuing to do some reinforcements with letters because all of the students can benefits from additional practice with letter formations and hearing letter sounds at the ending, middle, and end of words.
Please remember to read with your child, or have them read, at least 20 minutes per day. Have your child return the pumpkin sheet whenever they are done, which shows that they have read a book at home. I hope you are also enjoying doing the at home activities for the month of October.
Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.
Thanks so much for your support!
